A Day in the Life of an HVAC TechnicianA Day in the Life of an HVAC Technician

| | 0 Comment| 12:00 am

We begin the day by heading to our first service call at a residential home located in Newark Delaware. The- technician going to this HVAC service call recently received his master HVAC technician certification and license to work. He graduated from the Air Conditioner’s Contractor Apprenticeship Program. Both his professional training and his on the job experience has helped him to become confident in any work that he performs, especially with what he may be facing on his first service call of the day.

The day usually is structured with a set schedule that comes from the main office or dispatch. But according to the technician, the schedule can change if emergency heating repair or emergency air conditioning repair jobs come up. This happens more frequently in the dead of winter or the peak of summer.

Finally,we arrive at our first call, bright and early in the morning by 7am. That’s the earliest that we could make it out to our customer in need of heating repair. Apparently, their forced air heating system has been blowing cold air over the weekend. And now, since we are in the dead of winter and in the middle of a sub zero degree weather system,a functional heating system is extremely important and needed. Anyway,we arrive with our fully stocked truck ready to work with the customer and provide the best possible heating repair solution we can come up with.

Time to get to work. With our tools, the customer leads us to the basement where the main heating system or furnace is located. Before we get into the nitty gritty, lets start with the basics. What exactly is an HVAC Technician? HVAC technicians work on heating, ventilation, cooling and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings big and small. They have several different tasks that they handle. Before they start they test the heating or cooling system functionality to determine what needs to be repaired and from there they start their work.

Once their work is completed on this residential home, they succeed in getting the furnace to blow hot air again and getting the homeowner warmed up again. Next stopâ ¦ back at the shop. We return to the shop to pick up some badly needed supplies. It’s important to keep the truck stocked up with the tools, spare parts and other supplies anticipated for the next service call. This helps to save time and cut down on overall repair costs. Plus we don’t want to leave the customer waiting too long to get back up and running.

Ultimately,HVAC technicians need to be highly skilled and prepared in order to carry out any and all repairs that come their way during a typical schedule day. If you are looking to get into a trade for work, this is a great time. The construction industry is in dire need of skilled workers. It’s expected to grow twice as fast as any other industry and will face an estimated shortage of 1.6 million workers by the year 2022. Becoming an HVAC technician can be an excellent choice as good ones with the training and expertise are in high demand. -is often hiring. If you look around you may be able to find a company that will help to pay for your training and help you get closer to completing your certifications.
